You hear a lot about detoxing the body as a yogi. It's a bit of a controversy in the yoga world whether the actual practice of yoga physically detoxes the body.

From deep twists to hot, sweaty flows, some people say yoga is the perfect way to free your body from a myriad of daily toxins because it stimulates the digestive and purification organs with massage and increased blood flow.

The verdict is still out on whether this theory is true or not, but yogis also love products that claim to detox the body gently and naturally.

I've heard good things about the Yogi Detox Tea, and I figured I'd give it a shot. Even if it didn't work, at the very least, I certainly wouldn't be hurting anything.

We like

  • The tea has a myriad of herbal ingredients.
  • Help the body's filtering organs (namely the liver and kidneys) flush out the body's built-up toxins and impurities
  • To support blood flow, an important aspect to ensure your organs are functioning properly.
  • Making you feel lighter, healthier, and cleaner

We didn't like

  • This tea has its own unique taste. t's very herbal and strong.
  • Digestive upset is the most commonly reported side effect.
  • Ginger is thought to affect your blood's ability to clot.
  • There isn't any concrete proof that detox teas actually work to fully detoxify the body.

Summary

To make a long story short, the Yogi Detox tea can make you feel lighter, healthier, and cleaner, but that could simply be because your body is shedding excess water and your intestines are being jumpstarted by the herbs.

There isn't any concrete proof that detox teas actually work to fully detoxify the body, but if you don't have any dietary allergies or pre-existing health conditions, the worst that will happen is you'll get some extra liver and kidney support with the Yogi Detox tea.

Ingredients

The tea has a myriad of herbal ingredients, all of which are designed to help the body's filtering organs (namely the liver and kidneys) flush out the body's built-up toxins and impurities.

Most of the herbs in this tea have been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. The dandelion and burdock help support the health of the liver, and the juniper berry improves your kidneys' function.

Ayurveda utilizes a blend of three herbs, trikatu (black pepper, ginger, and long pepper), to support blood flow, an important aspect to ensure your organs are functioning properly, and this is a main component of this detox tea.

Directions

Yeah, there are directions for drinking this tea. Because of the number of herbs in the tea, it isn't recommended that you drink it multiple times a day.

Instead, the company says it's safe to consume one to three cups per day for up to 30 days. If you want to keep drinking it, it's recommended you stop drinking the tea for one week before you continue your daily amount.

Side Effects

There are a few mild side effects reported by consumers.

  • Digestive upset is the most commonly reported side effect. This includes diarrhea, stomach upset, belching, and some mild heartburn.
  • Ginger is thought to affect your blood's ability to clot, so if you have a bleeding disorder, talk to your doctor before drinking the tea.

Allergy Concerns

  • Avoid this product if you're allergic to ragweed, daisies, chamomile, iodine, yarrow, or marigolds.

The Taste

Obviously, one of the biggest concerns you'll have with this tea is how it tastes. Reviews are mixed online about how drinkable this tea is. I love flavored teas, and this one certainly has its own...unique taste.

It's very herbal and strong, and it took me quite a few cups to get used to the taste. Even after getting used to the taste, it doesn't mean I learned to enjoy it, and other online reviews line up with my opinion on the taste. I can't say I'll ever learn to like the taste of this tea.

The Verdict: Does It Actually Work?

There's no magic cure-all potion, food, or drink that works to rid your body of toxins or excess fat. Detoxifying your body takes a regular combination of hydrating, good nutrition, and plenty of exercise.

Most people who claim these teas work say that because the ingredients act as both a diuretic and a laxative, making you feel lighter and sometimes showing you results on the scale.

Since two cups of water shows up as one pound on the scale, even losing a little bit of excess water is enough to make you feel like you're being properly detoxed.

As for the laxative effect...those results are obvious on their own. However, there's a big difference between detoxification and losing water weight.

Final Verdict

Quality Rating:

There's no magic cure-all potion, food, or drink that works to rid your body of toxins or excess fat. Detoxifying your body takes a regular combination of hydrating, good nutrition, and plenty of exercise.

The herbs in these detox teas, including the Yogi detox tea, help support the function of your so-called "detoxifying organs", but that doesn't mean they're going to clear your system of any unwanted build-up.
